𓅪 bird log

A logbook where i watch the birds that live near my study area (featuring subpar quality photos).

graphic: A black bird resting in a nest situated on a pipe close to the ceiling. The photo is of low quality, so the features of the bird are unclear.

Date: 23 Jan.

Bird's nest sighting.

Another bird came flying in; it took this bird's place on the nest. the first nest dweller flew away. i don't know much on bird behavior, but i think it's cute -- it's like they're swapping shifts.

Couldn't take a photo of the nest's top view, sadly. i wonder if there were hatchlings in there...

A bird's head peaking out of the nest. The shape of the head is round, and white lines are seen below its eyes.

Date: 04 Feb.

Peekaboo.

The birds have been unusually quiet lately. The nest seemed empty at first, but a little bird head popped up, confirming that it is still indeed occupied. What a pleasant surprise.

A collage of two photos; I think they're the cutest ones i've taken. In the first photo, the black parent bird is putting its beak into a small fledging with an open, yellow beak. There's another fledgling hiding in the backside of the nest. In the second photo, the parent flies off and the hidden fledgling pops its head up.

Date: 07 Feb.

Look at these fellas. I'm glad i had the chance to take a photo during feeding time.

Two adult birds looking at each other. One is sitting inside the nest, while the other stands on the pipe. The standing bird's features are captured clearly: its overall body is black-ish, with a red breast and a gray belly. A white line borders the breast and belly.

Date: 11 Feb.

A cute moment between the two birds from 23rd January

It's the first photo that actually shows what the birds look like (huzzah!). The previous photos made them look like crows.

Date: 08 Mar.

As of 20th February, the nest is now unoccupied.
I forgot that birds fledge so fast compared to human growth... i wish those birds well.

A new finding! A photo of the birds' kind which i found online. The nest is settled on top of a light bulging out of a white wall... the nest's appearance is similar to the one i saw. Source: Joaquim Gaspar (Wikipedia)

Date: 20 Dec.

After all this time, the birds' identities have been revealed!

After browsing through my photo gallery, i've found some photos of the birds which i didn't put on this post.

One of the photos happened to be clear enough for the image search to detect properly. After a bit of crosschecking, it seems that the descriptions match the search results. :)

Drumroll, please...
🥁🥁🥁
...They're barn swallows! (Hirundo rustica)

Date: 18 Jan.

Correction: They were actually pacific swallows (Hirundo javanica). Haha.

The 23rd day of January in this new year is approaching. I believe i have progressed through my bird watching journey quite nicely. I would not call myself a professional, however i have grown an ear to catch bird calls and songs more frequently, plus i've been recognizing the birds that perch on the trees in places i regularly visit.
